Summer is here and our libraries across the Shire are running a full program of great holiday activities, including our Golden Ticket Reading Challenge, Christmas crafts, author events and plenty of fun Literacy, STEM and Art activities for kids.

Drop into the library to make your own crafty Christmas cards.
Use one of the templates provided or start from scratch. Lots of fun craft supplies will be available for you to create with.

Pickle Bottle Hill Author Event with Alex Nicol
Alex Nicol has been a storyteller all his life. In his twenty-year career he has been a writer, a broadcaster and a rural journalist.
Join Alex as he speaks about his new Historical Novel ‘Pickle Bottle Hill’. The story begins in 1974 in North Queensland’s gold fields and culminates a hundred and twenty years later. The book explores the history of Chinese gold miners in Australia as well as interpersonal relationships in these unusual and trying circumstances.

Summer Reading
Summer Reading Challenge, The Golden Ticket
Find a golden ticket and win. This summer there will be 16 golden tickets hidden amongst our adult, youth, and children’s collections. Borrow a book with a golden ticket and you win a prize. Tickets could be in any book so the more you read the more chances you have to win.
Hint, the tickets are not visible, so peeking into lots of books won’t work!
Competition runs across all Bega Valley Shire libraries from 2 January to 14 February.
indyreads Summer Book Club
The indyreads Summer Book Club will run from 1 December 2024 to 13 February 2025. During this period, Smoke by Michael Brissenden will be available as an ebook on indyreads with unlimited access for all Bega Valley Shire library members
Smoke is a gripping crime thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. Set in the aftermath of a wildfire, an open-and-shut case of accidental death is soon revealed to be murder. As the investigation deepens, Detective Alex Markov discovers a small town rotten to its core and she must decide if it’s worth risking the consequences to expose the truth?
Michael Brissenden was an award-winning journalist with the ABC for over 35 years before turning to writing fiction. Smoke is his third novel.

Atlas Of Life Photography competition winners
The winning entries of the Atlas of Life’s annual Photographic competition will be on display at Bega Valley Shire libraries this summer. The exhibition will tour to all Bega Valley Shire library branches. Drop in to admire the wonderful nature photography captured by our talented residents.

Rhymes, Rhythms, and Puppets with Leigh and Sandy Gordon
Bring your little ones and their grandparents to our Rhymes, Rhythms, and Puppet Friends! Event. Enjoy a delightful blend of music, songs and puppet fun that will captivate both young and old.
Leigh & Sandy Gordon have travelled the country entertaining children for many years. Leigh is a singer/songwriter, and Sandy works in early childhood. Now they bring their songs and puppets to Bermagui Library to entertain the young, and the young-of-heart.

Spies R Us - Secret Message Treasure Hunt
Are you ready to receive your set of Super-Secret-Spy instructions? Upon contacting the spy headquarters you will be allocated your Secret Agent name and given your Spy Kit. Together with your Super-Secret-Spy-Agent-Partner (grandparent, parent, uncle, aunty) you will decode and solve a series of clues hidden throughout the Library. With invisible writing experiments, morse code, X-Ray specs and UV light torches, you will see the unseen, communicate in code and conduct yourself in clandestine cloak and dagger. Each answer leads you to the next clue getting closer to completing your secret mission. This secret-agent-spy-chase is perfect for young spies from second grade onwards. Basic reading skills required.
